  7.     It's hard to explain, but Italians go gaga for WOODY
  8. ALLEN. He has signed up with Coop, Italy's biggest foodstuffs
  9. chain, to write and direct (but not star in) five TV commercials
  10. dealing with health and environmental matters. American viewers
  11. will not get to see the spots unless they own a terrific
  12. satellite dish, but here is one possible story line, suffused
  13. in a darkly brooding Berg manesque ambiance: a woman named, say,
  14. Mia upbraids a man named, say, Marcello, who is tying square
  15. knots in fresh pasta. There ensues a lively, if oblique,
  16. discussion of Wittgenstein, Freud and the existential
  17. consequences of global warming, whereupon they fall in love and
  18. forsake osso buco for a lifetime diet of organically grown
  19. radicchio. Allen will harvest a reported $2 million for the
  20. series.
